Cucumbers to Pickles

Yesterday I drove to a local produce farm and purchased 50 lbs of cucumbers, 2 large bunches of dill, several bulbs of garlic and two gallons of vinegar. Today I canned 23 quarts of pickles. There is a limit to how many jars I can pack and water bath in a day....23 quarts(one jar broke or there would have been 24)! :) Tomorrow I will pickle the last 25 lb bag of cukes! What was I thinking? To tell you the truth it is a labor of love for my husband. He really likes the pickles and it's the least I can do! :))
I set up an outdoor kitchen with a two burner propane stove and all the needed extras.
Every jar was freshly washed and ready for the assembly line: 1 garlic clove, 1 red pepper, 1 dill head, 1 grape leaf, several cucumbers and hot brine.
Into the water bath goes the filled jars. This takes five minutes after coming to a boil.
Tadaaa! Now, we wait for them to turn to pickles. It takes about a month. Off in the distance you can see that I treated myself to a hot pot of tea and zucchini bread. This day was cool and the hot tea was perfect!
Here is the recipe for Dill Pickles. It is the best one I've found. Enjoy!

Oh, those look yummy! I can't wait to taste them!

We didn't even feel the earthquake because we were in a car on the 405 South on the way to San Diego. The Professor said this afternoon that nothing was amiss at home, nothing on the floor, not even crooked pictures on the walls.

Hopped over from Willow's site.
Those cucumbers look amazing.
I can taste them right now.

Loved your camping pictures. There's nothing like living in the country.
I feel so blessed by the surroundings daily.

Homemade pickles...mmm...I've never done pickling on such a big scale...not enough space to keep all the extra equip...But I dream of such one day, and with a big veggie garden to can, pickle and store to my heart's content--LOL! Until then...save me a pickle! Happy weekend ((HUGS))

Yum! I'm a huge pickle fan and would love to try these although not sure if I'm up for 50lbs. worth. I'm sure your husband will be pleased!

My 1/2 bushel of cucumbers wore me out! :) They are now packed away waiting their month to be ready. Hope they turn out. I love the idea of an outdoor kitchen. My flat top stovetop with just two large burners was completely maxed out with all the canning. It's all good though, and I'm looking forward to doing some more...later.

Oh, I wish you lived closer! I tried my hand at dill pickle making this year - and was a bit disappointed that my pickles don't seem crisp. I sliced my pickles - maybe I should just try whole ones next time? Any tricks or tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well this post answered my question from the post above. How fun! I've never done pickles before. I think I'm going to give them a try someday.
