234th Army Band plays at Shute Park in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Blogging makes everyday an event! We have gone to the 234th Army Band concerts for years but never have I taken my camera and recorded it. It is worthy of recording and sharing what these men and women do! They serve our country for most of their lives and give countless hours doing so. Many have served in Vietnam, The Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan and wherever else we are present in this world. The director of the band, Chief Warrant Officer James Powell, is our friend and he is about to retire after 41 years of service in the U.S. Army. Last night may be the last time we will see him directing this band. Thank you Jim for all your years of service to our country!
While listening to the beautiful and varied music, I looked up to see this magnificent sky. Yes, those are the clouds that come before the rain! Aren't they the fluffiest balls of cotton you've seen? The rain held off until after the concert. :)

The sun was going down and pierced our vision for a few moments.
This young man is a trombone player and a new member to the 234th Army Band. He was coming down from the stage to give his mom a hug. We are all proud of him and applaud his commitment to serving our country in this way.

So true how blogging makes everyday an event. This was a great one to blog about and put into history. Blessings...
What a great day! I love the cloud photos.
Yay for Shute Park in Hillsboro! My Oregon town! We would go there every week to hear the various bands and heard the Army Band with Jim Powell directing it (and singing!)
Send him our congratulations!
I love small town gatherings such as this. Having a strong sense of community is so important in a society. Our 'Old Home Days' weekend is coming up soon and I can't wait to reconnect with all of my neighbors. Good food, parades, frog-jumping contests, pie eating contests, book sales...and wonderful friends. It doesn't get much better than that!
wonderful post Julene, I particularly like the clouds pictures, very mesmerising :)
