Suttle Lake Resort and Lodge

Autumn is a perfect time to visit the Central Cascade Range of Oregon. We drove up to Suttle Lake Lodge and spent some time looking around the area. The new Suttle Lake Lodge was built after 1991 when Jim Schmit bought the resort and began to bring it back to its intended use. Previous to the rebuilding two other lodges had burned down. The first lodge burned in 1929 and the second in 1939. The area has a high forest fire danger and much effort has been focused on preventing forest fires by the state of Oregon. When the weather turns to lightening there is not a lot that be done to prevent the fires from occurring. In the recent past the forests in the Central Cascade Range have been thinned and underbrush removed. This helps prevent fires from spreading so rapidly. The front doors of the lodge are very ornate and depict a Northwest Native design. It is impressive and inside the lodge there are several more beautiful carvings that are of highest art quality.
A quick jaunt towards the waters edge and there is a breath taking view of Suttle Lake.
A turn to our right gave us another striking scene into the woods. The colors are so true to the season! The resort has many different kinds of abodes but the Teepee's are among the favorite with children! If it's luxury you would like there is plenty of that inside the lodge and resort homes.
Not a detail has been forgotten by the staff of Suttle Lake Lodge. On both sides of the front doors is a reminder of the season and it leaves an imprint of the cheerfulness found inside!

What a beautiful ramble you gave us around the lodge! The foliage is awesome, it is still pretty green here in the south. I would so love to visit your area someday.

I remember going to Suttle Lake with our grandparents and camping. Jim, me, Uncle Don's family and Grma and Grdpa. The lake and woods are the same, but the lodge is a new and wonderful addition to the scenery.
