My Day....

Yesterday was my day. The morning began with an early walk around the usual trail and then home for a shower. My husband brought me a Starbucks coffee as a small surprise and then I headed to the mall to meet my daughter. Each year, on or near this day, I go shopping to buy myself a gift in memory of my mother. She would be happy to know that I do this because she was a very thoughtful and loving person who enjoyed giving me a gift that would be useful and kept for a long time. It's a lovely way to use part of "my day" and it was fun to share it with my daughter.
Later in the day, when the sun was beginning to get low in the sky, I once again got in my car, and drove down our driveway. I looked at the Christmas trees, just trimmed, and could see that the rain had left droplets of water on their branches. Spider webs were glistening and showing each spiders artistry!
I also noticed how the light was casting shadows on the front porch and couldn't resist taking a quick photo. It has rained hard, the flowers are drooping, and it is time for the garden flowers to wind down. The summer has been generous this year and each day has been appreciated for the bounty all around us.
After a wonderful pizza dinner with my family we came back home to have a sweet treat and blow out a few candles. Above all the fun and fancy...my family remains my treasure!! My love and prayers follow them each day and I can't begin to express my thankfulness to God for all He has given me in them!
(Silas, Me and Claire)

It was a happy birthday!!
(I almost forgot to tell you what my mother got me! I have it on in the above picture....it is a soft black cashmere sweater!! )

Oh a very happy birthday to you dear Flower. The sweater is very nice on you! Perfect for the northwest. What a great tradition you have in remembering your mom that way...
And I love the light and all on your front porch photo...

Edna was here for lunch today (family dinner day). Wher we mentioned we had called Rachel on her birthday yesterday she reminded us that it was also your birthday. MomEdna remembered that she was celebrating your birthday with you when the call came that Rachel had arrived. And now I've shared in your birthday celebration via your blog (love it!) and can wish you a belated Happy Birthday. I love that your mom still gets you a present. It's a day you share with her no matter how old you get.

What a wonderful tradition, and you are a young grandma. Your grandchildren are so cute. Your porch looks like a place I would love to sit and sip a cup of coffee while I enjoy the view and company.Happy, happy birthday to you.

Happy Birthday!! What a wonderful month in which to be born! I love your sweater and your tradition. I don't know what birthday it was, but you don't look it! You hardly look like you could be a grandmother. Must be all that walking, gardening and healthy eating. Not to mention your joy-filled heart!

Your front porch and the Christmas trees are beautiful! Aren't those the best birthday gifts? The ones God gives us...

PS My new header picture was taken from our front porch (year before last - it was an extra-glorious fall). It is the road from the house to the barn and out of our property. I need to find out what kind of oak it is - it seems a little different from the other red oaks. It's always a little redder and the leaves are a little more leather-y. Any ideas?
