Over the years of growing a garden we have learned a few tricks that have helped us grow a better garden. Seeds are planted in triple rows, to counter balance the attack of birds, bunnies and deer. We water the planted rows by hand. We don't use a sprinkler because it helps keep the weeds from growing between the rows. We also plant wide rows, so we can till, if needed. Weeding is all done by hand, we use no herbicides. Chicken, goat and horse manure is used for fertilizer. It works!
How do you grow and care for your garden?

We have moved from commercial fertilizer to rabbits droppings..that's the only thing useful with our rabbits nowadays. I mean they eat and poop a lot, and apart from looking cute..they dont do anything else right? We had 5 for a few weeks, the babies went back to my mom's place. now they are back and we have 8..and they drive me crazy. Sounds like it's a lot of work in the garden but fun too. No, didnt buy any 'cats' from kuching...they are too heavy. Happy weekend and hugs to you :)
I don't really. I buy the plants and plant them and then my sister is the one who waters and fertilizes and weeds. I have it made.
Hugs,
Joanne
Hi Flower, found your comment on my blog and so glad you stopped by. Here in west Texas, the weather and grounds are harsh. I am constantly battling weeds. We have just gotten some much needed rain. I love looking at your posts and pictures. Come and visit my emboidery blog and cooking blog as well. The links are on this blog. Blessings, Kathleen
I have only 'raised' beds and I cultivate by hand and use my compost. The Professor is in charge of the compost and soil quality. He recently added compost and sand to a section where I will be planting my midsummer/fall lettuce crop. No pesticides except Roundup in areas where there is no produce growing, like in the gravel along the side of the house.
I just cannot find enough sun. So my garden does NOT grow - much. But if I was methodical and careful it might - like you are.
Our garden this year was somewhat of an experiment. It had been a while since I had planted a garden. We used no herbicides/pesticides and only organic fertilzer. I have to be honest and say that the weeds are now out of control but the harvest has been successful. Four cuke plants produced over 60 cukes so far- more than I can use. Our four different types of squash are quite healthy, and if my tomatoes continue as is I am going to be very busy making tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce... and of course, salsa. We have had so much rain here I have not had to water for weeks - rather sad because I miss the sun. I enjoy learning from your blog - thanks for your gardening tips.
All I can is that your garden is ABSOLUTELY beautiful!! Picture perfect!
