Mystery in the forest, a bug and a slug!

I love a mystery, and on my walk through our woods this morning I found this plant that is a mystery to me. It is all alone, nestled beside a wild strawberry plant. It is about the size of a silver dollar. It would have been easy to miss but I kept my eyes down on this day. It was close to the ground and it had a queer shape...I'll call it a "horned mushroom" with a rubbery texture and a two inch stem. It's not a recorded wild mushroom but I've sent the picture to the Oregon Wild Flower Society and maybe they will know exactly what it is. Just another angle of the same mystery plant.
Since I was keeping my eyes down this little crawler was inching across the path and he caught my eye, too! Is it a centipede or a millipede? I couldn't see the head well enough to determine. Does anyone have an idea?
And, for all the slug lovers of Blog Land, here is one was huge guy!! We joke about being able to put a saddle on them and go for a ride. This specimen is a Banana Slug...very common and always disgusting!!
Slugs are very common in the Northwest and they will eat an entire plant in short order. They are neither male nor female...they are both!! To touch one is to know what the work "icky" means! If a slug should happen to climb into your hair while you are sleeping outside...well, lets just say there is not a moments peace until there is a shower!! They are not easily removed! Slimy things! I didn't disturb this one because he was in the forest and not in my garden.

Oh goody! an icky slug...
I remember how shocked I was to see these when we moved to Washington State. I was used to snails (that Willow loves to step on when we walk, yucky) It will be interesting to see if you can discover what this weird growth is...

The people from the Oregon Wild Flower society have reported back to me and the mystery plant is nothing they recognize. I think, after touching it and looking at it closely under a magnify glass, it is some kind of mushroom or fugus.

By stepping on the snails, I'm merely doing my civic duty to help others with their snail problems.

I was thinking that the plant might be a deformed mushroom.

How well I remember the banan slugs. Did you know that the mascot at Cal State Univ, Santa Cruz is the Banana Slug? True.

Oh my! That slug and other bug would creep me out. I would keep my eyes down all the time if I knew I may have them crossing my path as I walked.

A slug in your hair!!!!!!!!!!! YIKES! I don't think I would ever sleep outside again if that ever happened to me.

Creepy but interesting walk!

Hey Flower I took a photo of a flower shop in old town Camarillo today for you. I'll do a quick post for you to see. I'll let you know when I post.

How can I stand to step on the snails and crush them? Well, the Gerry's have so many snails on their ranch and every snail means less profit for them, so years ago I started imitating them and stepping on the snails. MamaMia can't stand the sound it makes.
