Little Red Hen

Little Red Hen will not stay with the other chickens in the pen.  She has figured out how to jump up on a tree limb, work her way up to the six foot high fence, and fly over.  We have almost given up putting her back each night.  I like seeing her during the day.  She slowly walks around my flower beds eating bugs and the dreaded slugs!  One chicken roaming around won't do any harm.
When we first got chickens they were free range.  When it rained they would cover our front porch...our lovely front porch.  Need I say more?  (We have more than fifty chickens.)

Bartholomew takes Little Red Hen in stride.  He doesn't bother her and he even is nice to her.  I found him inviting her into the garage today.  She did go in.  I suspect that cat food might taste good to her.
Little Red Hen was handed some Rye bread.  She liked it!  I smiled and left them alone.
Peaceful living has an animal or two roaming the place.

Sweet and peaceful living! Does it count to have feral cats and wild quail roaming through the garden?

thank you for visiting my blog - your little red hen is so well behaved! Our chickens are in an enclosed pen/converted dog run which has a tight fitting shade cloth cover - too many owls and hawks around here.
Beautiful yard!

My niece has chickens and the fox likes to get at them...so they have to put them up every night...hope Little red Hen is careful. Funny the cat likes her...my cat doesn't even blink an eye when the fox walks up on the porch (she is inside looking out the window) but if a cat comes on our porch WW3 breaks out.

Love the shots of the cat and the chicken. You could write a book about that...
The ducks that have decided our yard is a cool place to hang out decided the deck is the place to cover...ugh! I fussed at them and told them to do that in the grass please...
Love the view from your porch!

We learned long ago that free range doesn't mean free every where! Mostly ours never made it to our porch, they were too busy decimating my garden! Your place is exquisite.

I love your little farm critters. How peaceful to see your "friends" roam around freely on your/their farm.

Miss Hen is very pretty! I had to chuckle about the cat food- ours eats leftover dog food and the dog HATES IT. He likes to leave a little for his afternoon snack, but the chickies found out about it and they've been helping themselves. Now Smokey is on guard. (He still leaves the feed, he just watches it a lot more closely now. *giggle)

Julene, I love your cat, your chicken and mostly, that last picture. As I've said, I like an environment like this very much, more land and more animals. Now, I've got to live with caterpillars and snails -- not pets, still animals..and destructive ones at times. Husband did wanted to have a chicken coop at one time haha! imagine that..he wanted those small decorative chickens..dont know the names of it. Happy weekend and enjoy that beautiful porch of yours. hugs.M
